Wow. The comments here are live proof of why the feminist movement and women’s voices keep taking hits after hits. With all the talk of being allies and woke and empathetic to women’s suffering and everyday challenges that exists on Medium, it is heartbreaking and very revealing to read all the men here jumping for joy when some woman writes a new article with an old message from the 1980s that women should smile more, be nice, laugh at the guy’s bad jokes and basically wait to be approached and wooed with her parasol twirling and her toe pointed out. Dafuq outta here wit that shit.

I’m not even going to address the nonsense protocol that most men have writ here with pleasure and a silent ‘finally’. It’s so sad that a large part of why men find women unapproachable is the overall demeanor that women have donned, because that demeanor is the result of centuries of being told what to do and how to look. It has made women feel weak and powerless, so the only thing we can think of doing is to completely shut down or engage only with those we find safe.

But till the time men keep thinking and believing that we owe them some sort of warm welcome and a cheer for being interested in poor old us, we will keep trying to find a false balance between the sexes where one doesn’t yet exist.

Also, all of this is aimed at straight or straight-adjacent women and men, just to be clear.
